President’s message:
The Plainfield Grassroots Community Development Corporation (PGCDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2004 to provide high quality community services for our children, adolescents, adults and seniors. Our programs and services benefit and enrich the social, physical, educational and spiritual life of participants.
The SAT Prep program offers tutoring in SAT testing techniques and Math and English tutoring for high school students. The program has become very popular and is highly regarded. It has helped over 500 students from all around New Jersey and even from New York and Delaware. It is staffed entirely by volunteers, some of whom are members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Many of our students have scored very high on the SAT, and have gone on to attend some of the top universities in the country.
We also offer the Out of the Box Club (OBC), a Math and Science club for elementary and middle school children. The goal of the OBC is to create a love of Math and Science in young children by exposing them to challenging topics in Math and Science, and the children learn in a fun and stimulating atmosphere. The OBC club is staffed by NJ certified teachers.
The Agape Summer Day Camp provides campers with fun-filled and enriching summer days while their parents work. The camp, which is also held at St. Mark’s, allows our children to continue learning through the summer months by balancing play and exciting trips with classes in a variety of areas such as art, music, swimming and recreational activities.
All PGCDC programs are offered at a nominal cost so not to exclude people with limited resources. In addition to the support offered by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the PGCDC funds these programs with donations, grants and fundraisers.
